About Us
Sykes Barns were originally part of the working farm, known as Cheshire Farm with some parts of the house and barns dating back 300 years. Cheshire Farm's, House and Gardens including some derelict barns, were purchased by local builder Tom Sykes in the late 80's.
Seeped in history there are many tales surrounding the site. During the Coventry Blitz when 500 bombers massed on nearby Coventry for the biggest air raid to date, the barns were hit by an incendiary device, when the farmer had left a lamp on in the barn whilst he had a cow calving. The pilots used a white cross indicating a hospital, on the roof of a local building to turn towards Coventry. The farmer luckily survived the impact, but the cow was killed! The roof to what is now the Granary and Stables was replaced, but you can still see where the beams were scorched and blackened.
In the Hayloft a German bomber pilot was discovered hiding, when his plane came down in nearby fields. Mr Young the local builders merchant, recalled to Tom that "he was a child at the time, but vividly remembers it, because he had never seen anyone with feet so big!"
Once Merlin the family horse vacated The Stables, Tom set about converting the Barns into self catering holiday cottages in the early 90's Each cottage retaining the name of its former use. The Stables once home to Merlin, The Threshing Barn, The Granary, The Hayloft and The Folly. The business was known as Cheshire Farm Cottages until 2007. In 2007 the properties known as Cheshire Farm Cottages were divided from Cheshire Farm House and renamed Sykes Barns Holiday Cottages.
Sykes Barns have since undergone a major refurbishment programme, and now offer a high standard of self catering family friendly holiday accommodation in this beautiful rural area of North Warwickshire. We are now restoring a Georgian Farm House which we will offer B&B accomodation from.
Each of the self catering cottages have central heating, they all have two bedrooms. A lounge with TV, DVD and CD, dining room, fully fitted and fully equipped kitchen and bathroom. Cots and high chairs are available on request, linen and towels included.
